You have an excellent idea for a blog—substack or otherwise.
Your notes app is filled with clever musing, random sentences, and hilarious anecdotes (if you do say so yourself). You haven’t seen anyone cover this topic quite like you have before. You know what you have to say will matter to your audience.
But you sit on it.
Because you can’t think of a clever username or blog title. No theme. Nada.
And your blog needs a name.
It’s how users find your content.
It’s how Google decides how relevant your topics are.
It’s how people know what they will be reading about before sinking their precious time into your posts.
But you’re expected to have a clever and all-encompassing username for your content before even writing it?
You need to sign up for an account and decide on your handle…right now?
So, your blog falls by the wayside.
You will get to it when you have a clever and cheeky username that completely encapsulates you and your brand.
Getting It Out There is More Important than a Name
Seasons change. Opinions change. You change.
Chances are, the PERFECT title for your Substack or your Username preferences will change with time. That’s okay.
Just write. Put your ideas out there.
Your stories, your top 10 lists, your poems, your thoughts are invaluable.
And they are fantastic practice.
Be Kind to Yourself
You might want your username to encapsulate everything that you write about.
Coming across a Substack publication title like “Wild Swimming Tips” or a username like DungeonMasterPat does give you a nice sneak-peak into their interests and content.
But maybe you don’t have a niche yet. Or you want to share your thoughts about a wide range of topics.
That’s amazing.
Don’t let that stop you. If your writing is good, if you’re active in your communities, and if you share your publication on other platforms, people will find you.
How I Decided on my Username
Not knowing what to call my Substack or put as my username was exactly what stopped me from starting this months ago.
I signed up and started commenting on posts, liking notes, and interacting with people.
But I didn’t publish a thing.
Because I thought my USERNAME WAS TOO BORING.
Who is Corinna? Why should I listen to her? What is conscious copy anyway?
All my fears are still there. But here you are now.
My copywriting business from women, queer, and purpose-led businesses is called Copy by Corinna. I started with that.
Then, I added Conscious. Conscious Copy by Corinna.
Surely everyone writes consciously?
Open up the YouTube comments section of your favourite video, and let me know if you think all that writing is conscious and thought out.
Conscious copywriting uses intentional, ethical, and inspiring language to build an engaged audience.
Because words freakin’ matter.
If you don’t have the right words to engage people, then it doesn’t matter what you’re selling.
No one will see it.
So stop waiting for the perfect title, username, or whatever.
Just write. And write with purpose.
We will do this together.
xx
Corinna
You called me out.... I have notes upon notes of random article ideas, thoughts and more. I just don't seem to take them from notes to anywhere else. I have to explore what is stopping me and do it! Thanks for the encouragement!
